Community Cohesion project for School Councils in Tower Hamlets
This project funded by Tower Hamlets aims to develop community cohesion projects in primary and secondary schools and their communities across Tower Hamlets during the 2017/18 academic year.
Free training for teachers and students will enable school councils to pursue projects that engage communities through the lens of the UN’s ‘Global Goals’, taking action at a local level for issues that interest and motivate their students and school communities.
Students will be trained as project leaders to lead and develop local community projects that engage local communities using action research skills at their level.
This project contributes towards whole school development of:
- Global Learning at a local and a global level
- Approaches to British Values and shared values
- Pupil voice, student empowerment, citizenship
- A purposeful and effective school council engaged in Community Cohesion projects that take us beyond fundraising from a charity mentality to one of social justice
This year we are working with pupils across 12 Tower Hamlets schools, all of whom have developed pupil-led creative community cohesion projects, engaging hearts and minds!
